Colfax Avenue Bridge Replacement Construction Update

Bryan Abrams - Monday, October 12, 2009
Here is an update on the Colfax Avenue Bridge Replacement project as per the Studio City Resident's Association.  Their post is below.  Drive safely out there.

Traffic improvements and detours at the intersections of:
• Moorpark Street & Laurel Canyon
• Moorpark Street & Colfax Avenue
• Moorpark Street & Tujunga Avenue
• Tujunga Avenue & Ventura Boulevard
• Colfax Avenue &Ventura Boulevard

Colfax Avenue Bridge will not be closed until all traffic mitigation improvements are complete and detour restrictions are in place. Left and right turn restrictions along Moorpark Street will be placed to prohibit vehicles from using residential access during peak hours. Closure of the bridge is anticipated to occur no earlier than October 12, 2009 and will remain closed for two years. Exact date of the closure will be displayed on traffic message boards located on Colfax Avenue, 48 hours prior to closure.

The pedestrian bridge will remain open for public access; however, due to the imminent danger from large equipment during foundation installation for the south side of the new bridge, the pedestrian bridge will be closed for approximately six weeks starting sometime early January 2010. Temporary pedestrian access across the LA River will be provided.

Colfax Avenue (southbound only) between the project site and Chiquita Street will also be closed and used for construction material lay down. This area will be fenced and screened from public view.

Although, the Municipal code limits constructions work to 7:00 am - 9:00 pm on weekdays and 8:00 am - 6:00 pm on Saturdays, the Bureau of Engineering has imposed limits of construction work for this project between the hours of 7:00 am - 4:00 pm. However, to meet the requirements set forth by the LA County Flood Permit which prohibits work in the channel during the raining season, the contractor is requesting to work extended hours from 7:00 am - 5:30 pm on weekdays and 8:00 am - 6:00 pm on Saturdays for 4 consecutive weeks to demolish the existing steel bridge and to stay on schedule.

Bureau of Engineering and Council District 2 would like your feedback. Please direct your comments to Evan Roosevelt, Council District 2, District Director, at (818) 755-7676 or email to Evan.Roosevelt@lacity.org.

Singer Lisa Loeb has quietly paid $1,125,000 to purchase a four-bedroom, custom-built, Cape Cod-style house in Los Angeles’ Valley Village area.

Valley Village is an area in the San Fernando Valley that we seldom write about; it’s north of Studio City, west and south of North Hollywood, and east of Sherman Oaks.
